Till date five persons from Kerala has bagged Indian government's highest literary Award, the Njanpith or Njanapeedam .

The first person to bring Jnanpith Award to kerala was Mahakavi G. Sankara Kurup .He received Njanapeedam Award for his collection of poems 'Odakkuzhal' for the year 1965.

The second person to get Jnanpith Award from Kerala was S.K. Pottakad .He received Njanapeedom award for the year 1980 for the novel Oru Desathinte Katha.

Third person to get Jnanpith award from Kerala was Takazhi Shiva Shankara Pillai.He received Njanapeedam award for the year 1984 after considering his master piece works chemmeen and Kayar (novels).

Fourth person to get Jnanpith Award from Kerala was M.T Vazudevan Nair .He received Njanpeedom award for the year 1995 for his work Randamoozham(Novel).

Fifth person to get Jnanpith Award from Kerala is Prof.O.N.V Kurup .He received Njanapeedam award for the year 2007 .His noted works include Ujjayini ,Swayamvaram and Bhumikku Oru Charama Geetham.
