Private sector is in tthe forefront in reaching latest diagnostic machineries and medical personnel into Kerala.
Kerala enjoys firsts in India in attaining low birth rate ,total fertility rate and infant mortality rate .Average lifespan of people in Kerala is now on the higher side being 70 and above compared to 60 in 1981.
Kerala's traditional system of medicine is Ayurveda .Because of increasing popularity for this system ,many people from other parts of the world now turning to Ayurveda.Of all the system of medicines , allopathy is extensively and predominantly practised in Kerala. Besides ayurveda and alllopathy , homeopathy , unani ,naturopathy are also practised in Kerala.
Kerala has six medical colleges including private sector .There are hundreds of hospitals,dispenseries dotting each and every corner of Kerala.
To boost health awareness among the populace ,Kerala government has implemented various awards, campaigns and projects like Family welfare award,community award,costal health project,watershed project ,special shool health checkup programme ,pulse polio immunisation campaign ,medical ehibitions ,medical camps etc.
